The 36th annual reunion of the Jonathan Jasper and Bertha Eugene Phillips Sullivan family was on Saturday August 18, 2012 in the North Johnston High School cafeteria from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Name badges had been printed and were distributed to each person attending the reunion.

A welcome was given by Jerry Johnson, son of Virginia Sullivan Johnson and grandson of Jack and Bertha Sullivan. Thanks were extended to all who helped with decorating and providing desserts. Appreciation was expressed to Virginia, Rodney and Frankie Johnson for the very colorful and attractive decorations. They used pictures of the grandchildren along with bibles and oil lamps on all the tables. Thanks again for the time and effort given to the decorations!

A memorial candle was lighted in memory of Jack and Bertha Sullivan. Billy Lane, grandson of Jack and Bertha lit the candle in memory of them. Mother was born January 28, 1891 and died October 13, 1972 at the age of 81. Daddy was born May 22, 1889 and died May 21, 1976 one day short of being 87. A memorial candle was lighted by Jay Edwin Chaapel in memory of Jay Edward Chaapel who was born on March 9, 1922 and died September 26, 2011 and was the husband of Dorothy Sullivan Chaapel. A memorial candle was lighted by Travis House in memory of Phillip Gwayne House who was born May 9, 1958 and died December 15, 2011 and was the husband of Debbie Sullivan House, daughter of Wiley and Margaret Sullivan.
A few moments of silence were observed in their memory and Jerry Johnson offered a memorial prayer.

Jerry continues to work with the Sullivan web site (www.sullivansrus.com) and asks that everyone send news about their families and pictures that can be posted on the web site.

Only one birth was reported since the 2011 reunion. Jase Phillip Moore was born August 17, 2012 and is the son of Carl and Amber Moore, the grandson of Phillip and Debbie House and the great-grandson of Wiley and Margaret Sullivan.

Jerry Johnson introduced the families and their guests. Gene Sullivan reported an August balance of $767.13 in the flower fund and announced that the reunion next year will be on August 17. Updated directories were available for each family. Each family was asked to review the updated directories and send any changes or mistakes to Gene for posting to the computer.

Jim Turnbough returned thanks for the meal. Everyone enjoyed a meal of barbecue, fried chicken, brunswick stew, green beans, boiled potatoes, slaw, hushpuppies and tea served by employees of Holt Lake Barbecue & Seafood. After the meal visiting continued while family pictures were made and good-byes were said.

If everyone is included above, 125 attended the reunion. We collected $1677.00 to pay for the food, building rental, paper products, and supplies. We paid $1085.00 to Holt Lake Barbeque and Seafood for food and tips. The rent for the building and custodial service was $425.00. We paid Virginia $120.00 for supplies and decorations and to help Jerry with the web site. The remaining $47.00 was deposited to the flower fund with a current balance of $814.13.

Thanks to God for an enjoyable and successful reunion and safety in travel.
