The 32nd annual reunion of the Jonathan Jasper and Bertha
Eugene Phillips Sullivan family was on Saturday August 16, 2008 in the North
Johnston High School cafeteria from 11:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Name badges had
been printed and were distributed to each person attending the reunion.
A welcome was given by Jerry Johnson, son of Virginia
Sullivan Johnson and grandson of Jack and Bertha Sullivan. Thanks were extended
to all who helped with decorating and providing desserts.
Memorial candles were lighted in memory of Jack and Bertha
Sullivan and Phyllis Ebert Sullivan. Marverine Sullivan Godwin lit the candle
in memory of Jack and Bertha. Mother died October 13, 1972 and daddy died May
21, 1976.
Phyllis Ebert Sullivan, wife of Joe Sullivan, died July 6, 2008
at the age of 86. Leland Sullivan, son of Phyllis, lit the candle in memory of
her. A poem “How to Live Your Dash” was read by Bill Sullivan as a tribute to
Phyllis. A copy of the tribute and a personal page about Phyllis’s life will be
placed in the permanent records of the Sullivan family. A few moments of
silence were observed in their memory and Jerry Johnson offered a memorial
prayer.
An obituary for Sherwood Pittman, a close friend of the
Sullivan family, was displayed on the memorial table along with pictures of
Sherwood and Sullivan family members. Sherwood and Lynda were planning to
attend the reunion, but Sherwood died two days before the reunion.
Three births were announced since the 2007 reunion. Bryce
Rolhings Stabler was born August 30, 2007 and is the son of Jason and Stephanie
Stabler and the grandson of Rodney and Frankie Johnson and the great grandson
of Virginia Johnson. Isaiah J. Ledlow was born November 30, 2007 and is the son
of Heather Marie Kohut and the grandson of Jim and Gretta Kohut. Matthew Bryan
Eckard was born August 7, 2008 and is the son of Mike and Beverly Eckard and
the grandson of Dennis and the late Pam Carroll and the great grandson of
Marverine Godwin.
Jerry Johnson asked one member from each family to introduce
their family members and guests attending the reunion. Gene Sullivan reported
an August 5 balance of $478.88 in the flower fund. The reunion next year will
be at North Johnston High School on August 15.
New copies of the Sullivan Family Directory were distributed
to attendees. Everyone enjoyed a meal of barbecue, fried chicken, brunswick
stew, boiled potatoes, slaw, hushpuppies and tea served by employees of Holt
Lake Barbecue & Seafood. After the meal visiting continued, pictures were
made and good byes were said.

If everyone is included above, 132 attended the reunion. We
collected $1496.00 to pay for the food, building rental and to replenish the
flower fund. We paid $1120.00 to Holt Lake Barbeque and Seafood for food and
tips. The rent for the building and custodial service was $171.00. We rented a
microphone and speaker for $40.00. The remainder was deposited to the flower
fund ($165.00) bringing the current total in the fund $643.88.
Thanks to God for an enjoyable and successful reunion and
safety in travel.
