The 34th annual reunion of the Jonathan Jasper and Bertha Eugene Phillips Sullivan family was on Saturday August 15, 2009 in the North Johnston High School cafeteria from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Name badges had been printed and were distributed to each person attending the reunion.
A welcome was given by Jerry Johnson, son of Virginia Sullivan Johnson and grandson of Jack and Bertha Sullivan. Thanks were extended to all who helped with decorating and providing desserts.
Memorial candles were lighted in memory of Jack and Bertha Sullivan. Wiley Sullivan, son of Jack and Bertha lit the candle in memory them. Mother was born January 28, 1891 and died October 13, 1972 at the age of 81. Daddy was born May 22, 1889 and died May 21, 1976 one day short of being 87. A memorial candle was lighted by Jimmy Gaylor in memory of Geraldine Sullivan Gaylor who was born September 19, 1928 and died March 19, 2010. A memorial candle was lighted by Beth Dawson in memory of Susan Sullivan Moore who was born May 29, 1953 and died June 26, 2010. A memorial candle was lighted by Kyle Fitchett and Natalie Jarman in memory of Roger Lee Fitchett who was born July 19, 1946 and died February 11, 2010. A memorial candle was lighted by Tony Sullivan in memory of Sandra Garner Sullivan who was born February 24, 1957 and died May 10, 2010.
Jerry continues to work with the Sullivan web site (www.sullivansrus.com) and asks that everyone send news about their families and pictures that can be posted on the web site. Many thanks to Jerry for the great job he does with the Sullivan web site.
Four births since the 2009 reunion were announced. Oaken Pierce Ronnerman was born December 6, 2009 and is the son of Cassaundra Chapman, the grandson of Patty Jo and Roger Chapman, the great-grandson of Jay Chaapel and the great-great grandson of Ed and Dorothy Chaapel. Autumn Marie Ledlow was born December 9, 2009 and is the daughter of Heather Kohut and the granddaughter of Jim and Gretta Kohut and the great granddaugter of Joe and Rosa Kohut. Lilian June Bowman was born May 16, 2010 and is the daughter of Marion Scott and grandaughter of Tom and Jo Scott and the great granddaughter of Leland and Betty Sullivan. (I discovered after the reunion that the Billy Lane family update listed Payton Grace Mitchell who was born October 23, 2009 and is the daughter of Jason and Stephanie Mitchell and is the granddaughter of Billy Earl and Karen Lane and the great granddaughter of Billy Franklin Lane and the great-great granddaughter of Cret and Earl Lane.
Jerry Johnson asked a member of each family to introduced the attendees from each family and their guests. Gene Sullivan reported an August 5 balance of $295.00 in the flower fund and announced that the reunion next year will be at North Johnston High School on August 20.
Each family was asked to update their page in the Sullivan Family Directory. Everyone enjoyed a meal of barbecue, fried chicken, brunswick stew, boiled potatoes, slaw, hushpuppies and tea served by an employee of Holt Lake Barbecue & Seafood. After the meal visiting continued while family pictures were made and good byes were said.

If everyone is included above, 145 attended the reunion. We collected $2236.00 (including the $500.00 from Donnie Earl Lane in memory of Cretta Mae Sullivan Lane)mto pay for the food, building rental and to replenish the flower fund. We paid $1185 00 to Holt Lake Barbeque and Seafood for food and tips. The rent for the building and custodial service was $225.00. We spent $85.00 for paper products and printer materials. The remainder was deposited to the flower fund ($741.00) bringing the current total in the fund $1046.00.
