The 33rd annual reunion of the Jonathan Jasper and Bertha
Eugene Phillips Sullivan family was on Saturday August 15, 2009 in the North
Johnston High School cafeteria from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Name badges had
been printed and were distributed to each person attending the reunion.
A welcome was given by Jerry Johnson, son of Virginia
Sullivan Johnson and grandson of Jack and Bertha Sullivan. Thanks were extended
to all who helped with decorating and providing desserts.
Memorial candles were lighted in memory of Jack and Bertha
Sullivan. Billy Sullivan, son of Jack and Bertha lit the candle in memory them.
Mother was born January 28, 1891 and died October 13, 1972 at the age of 81.
Daddy was born May 22, 1889 and died May 21, 1976 one day short of being 87.
Jerry reported that Joyce Lane, wife of Donnie Lane died
February 26, 2009. Donnie is the son of the late Earl and Cretta Sullivan Lane.
A few moments of silence were observed in their memory and Jerry Johnson
offered a memorial prayer.
Jerry continues to work with the Sullivan web site
(www.sullivansrus.com) and asks that everyone send news about their families
and pictures that can be posted on the web site. Many thanks to Jerry for the
great job he does with the Sullivan web site.
Two births that occurred since the 2008 reunion were
announced. Charlie Jacob Maddrey was born September 13, 2008 and is the son of
Selby and Christie Maddrey and the grandson of Buster and Beth Dawson. Jaclyn
Grace Patrick was born June 23, 2009 and is the daughter of Lange and Jamie
Patrick and the granddaughter of Jim and Julie Turnbough and the great
granddaughter of Marverine Godwin.
Jerry Johnson introduced the attendees from each family and
their guests. Gene Sullivan reported an August 5 balance of $655.00 in the
flower fund and announced that the reunion next year will be at North Johnston
High School on August 21.
Updated copies of the Sullivan Family Directory were
distributed to each family. Everyone enjoyed a meal of barbecue, fried chicken,
brunswick stew, boiled potatoes, slaw, hushpuppies and tea served by an
employee of Holt Lake Barbecue & Seafood. After the meal visiting continued
while family pictures were made and good byes were said.

If everyone is included above, 122 attended the reunion. We
collected $1392.00 to pay for the food, building rental and to replenish the
flower fund. We paid $1058.75 to Holt Lake Barbeque and Seafood for food and
tips. The rent for the building and custodial service was $171.50. We spent
$121.75 for paper products and printer materials. The remainder was deposited
to the flower fund ($40.00) bringing the current total in the fund $695.00.
Thanks to God for an enjoyable and successful reunion and
safety in travel.
